What Bloop reads on your Mac
When you double-tap the shortcut, Bloop reads the text you have selected in the frontmost app, through the Accessibility permission macOS asks you for once. It reads nothing at any other time. With nothing selected, it opens a field and reads only what you type into it.
Bloop keeps a history of your lookups on this Mac (⌥⌘Y), in a file in its own Application Support folder. It stays on your Mac, and you can clear it from the History window.
What leaves your Mac
- Nothing, for most languages. Translation runs on your Mac with Apple’s on-device models, the same ones Safari and the Translate app use. The text you select is not sent anywhere.
- Google, only if you turn it on. Apple’s models do not cover every language, Hebrew among them. Google Translate is off by default; when you switch it on, the text you select for one of those languages is sent to Google to translate, and the result is labelled “via Google” so you always know. Google’s handling of it is under their privacy policy.
- Activating your licence. When you enter your key, Bloop sends it to the licence server with your Mac’s name (as shown in Sharing settings) and a one-way hash that identifies this Mac to Bloop only. It is not a serial number, and no other app can match it. That is how a licence knows which three Macs it is on. Once a day Bloop asks the same server whether the licence is still valid; if the server cannot be reached, Bloop keeps working.
- Checking for updates. Once a day Bloop downloads a small public file from GitHub listing the latest version. The request carries nothing about you or your Mac beyond what any web request does. If there is an update, Bloop asks before installing it.

Payments
Purchases are handled by Lemon Squeezy, the merchant of record. They receive your payment details and email address under their privacy policy; Bloop never sees your card.
Refunds
If Bloop isn’t right for you, write within 14 days of purchase for a full refund. No questions asked.
Removing Bloop
Quit Bloop and move it to the Bin. It changes no system setting, so there is nothing to put back. Its history and settings live in ~/Library/Application Support/Bloop and ~/Library/Preferences/com.elil.bloop.plist if you want those gone too.
